Turkcell makes a ton on mobile marketing

TURKCELL, the Turkish mobile operator, generated millions of dollars in revenues by using Mobile marketing and advertising strategies.

The company told a Mobile World Congress panel hosted by the Mobile Marketing Association and featuring Stephen Upstone, Velti's vice president for business development in Europe, that it earned $100 million (£64 million) from the two platforms in 2009.

Of the $100 million generated around a third came from mobile advertising strategies, with the rest generated by mobile marketing.

The head of Turkcell's mobile marketing and advertising division, Melis Tuerkman, said that the operator expects its total revenues from these channels to surge by 60 per cent by the end of the year.

These sectors have experienced rapid growth over recent years, she claimed, adding that in 2005, its combined revenues for the two channels totalled just $1.5 million.

Turkcell has 36 million subscribers in Turkey, making it the country's leading mobile operator.
