Idearc's Superpages delivers local search to TwitterIDEARC, the multiplatform Information Services business, has brought local search to Twitter through Twitter.com/sp411. It’s fair to say that the Twitter cognoscenti have used the service for local search purposes for some time – they just asked their followers for local recommendations about places to stay, eat or be entertained. Additionally, there are also the third party search engines that use the Twitter API. However, now Idearc’s Superpages Twitter users can now conduct searches of the Superpages database and get results as direct messages on Twitter to their local queries. This is an excellent example of a directory business innovating to take its data and local search capabilities out to the users – addressing demand rather than focusing on the supply side of the equation in the manner that has so badly hindered directory assistance/directory enquiries providers since liberalisation.
