Business owners: get ready to claim your Twitter Place.
THE internet has been awash with rumours over the last day or two that Twitter is set to launch a new take on Twitter Places as a response to location based social media services like Foursquare.
Twitter Places was launched several months ago, but now it seems that Twitter’s headquarters has been claimed by @Twitter. Thus far there doesn’t appear to be a way to claim a place for yourself, but it makes perfect sense that this should be rolled out to businesses as a check-in style service.
Twitter’s rivals have recently made significant headway in the location space – and for brands and small businesses it’s a great way to deliver in-context, in-proximity marketing messages. It seems an obvious next step for Twitter as social media services move toward revenue generating models.
